UK needs immigration pragmatism as new research shows Brexit premium on food

Responding to new LSE research which suggests that Brexit has added £210 to the average annual food bill since 2020, Hilary Benn MP, Co-Convenor of the UK Trade and Business Commission, said:

“The message from this research is stark. At a time when people are already facing a cost of living crisis, leaving the EU has pushed up the cost of food because of post-Brexit red tape.

“This is exactly the opposite of the Vote Leave promises. Food industry leaders have been clear: they need the government to remove barriers to trade and adopt a more pragmatic immigration strategy.”
