Inflation rise: PM's free-market experiment leaves millions facing hardship

Responding to new ONS statistics today showing inflation rising to 10.1%, matching a 40-year high and driven by grocery inflation, MP for Leeds Central and Co-Convenor of the UK Trade and Business Commission Hilary Benn said,

“The chaos unleashed by a Prime Minister using the British economy as an experiment for half-baked free-market ideas has left millions facing even greater hardship.

“While there are global factors, the UK is the only G7 nation grappling with the added pressures of a Brexit deal which has increased costs for businesses and consumers even further. The Government should seek to remove these artificial barriers to help drive down prices.”
