Horizons broadened for young Brits as UK to rejoin Erasmus

The government is set to announce tomorrow that the UK will rejoin the Erasmus+ scheme from January 2027 according to reports.

On Tuesday evening the Guardian reported that both the UK and EU had agreed terms that would see British people eligible to participate in the EU’s student exchange programme in a little over twelve months time.

Erasmus+ was formally recommended by the UK Trade and Business Commission in our landmark May 2023 report.

James Coldwell, Senior Manager of External Affairs at Best for Britain,  said:

“Rejoining Erasmus is a major win for young British students, for countless others who will be able to access its vocational training schemes, and for towns and cities across the UK that will once again benefit from its cultural exchange, enriching their communities and broadening horizons for their young people. It also shows the UK Government is serious about resetting our relationship with the EU.

“The UK and EU should now build on this momentum to expedite progress towards the areas of cooperation set out in May, particularly on a Youth Experience Scheme which can restore even more opportunities for young people.”
