UK Trade and Business Commission responds to PM 'levelling up' speech

Responding the Prime Minister's ‘levelling up' speech in Birmingham today, Hilary Benn MP, who co-convenes the UK Trade and Business Commission said:

"What the many businesses hit by new barriers to trade and staff shortages want from the Prime Minister is not rhetoric but practical help.

“SMEs employ around 17 million people in the UK, and so if the Government is serious about increasing opportunities across the country, they must increase support for businesses, improve the agreement with our closest trading partners and address the serious staffing problems in the farming, haulage and hospitality sectors.”
