ONS trade figures reaffirm importance of UK-EU relationship
The latest trade figures from the ONS reaffirm that the European Union remains by far the UK’s largest and most important trading partner.
In 2024, the EU accounted for a significant 50.2% of UK imports, valued at £455.0 billion and 41.0% of UK exports, totalling £358.1 billion. These figures follow a renewed diplomatic push from Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with high level trade negotiations taking place with the United States, India and most notably the European Union.
As discussions progress with other trading partners like the United States and India, the UK must ensure that its relationship with the EU remains strong. The UK Government’s commitment to fulfilling outcomes agreed at the 19 May UK-EU Summit is crucial.
