NI Protocol: Farcical government still asking how their plan will work

Responding to reports that the government will soon introduce new legislation to override the Northern Ireland Protocol, breaking the Brexit Deal they signed with the EU, Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP and member of the UK Trade and Business Commission said,

“It is farcical but all too characteristic of this government that days before unveiling this extremely controversial and damaging policy, they are reportedly still asking businesses to tell them how it will work and are yet to ask if it is even legal.

“Any threat of unilateral action on the Northern Ireland Protocol could take us back to No-Deal Brexit territory which will have devastating repercussions for businesses and consumers in the UK and Ireland during a cost of living crisis. The only way forward is a negotiated settlement.”
