New aluminium tariffs will hit industry and turn UK into China’s clearing house

Responding to warnings from the UK aluminium sector that the Trade Remedies Authority’s (TRA) proposed anti-dumping tariffs are too low and could force British manufacturers to close shop, industrial and chemical sector expert and UK Trade and Business Commissioner Dr Geoff Mackey said,

“The proposed tariffs are substantially lower than those in the EU and US and will likely result in closed factories, lost jobs and contracts, and further trade friction with our closest trading partners by making Britain a clearing house for cheap Chinese imports.

“Between the cost of living crisis and post-Brexit slump, heavy industry is already being hammered and cannot afford further missteps from the UK Government.”
