May GDP decline: Government responsible for “prolonged economic stagnation”

Responding to the latest ONS GDP figures which showed the UK economy shrank by 0.1% last month, Layla Moran MP, member of the cross party UK trade and Business Commission said,

“While the Coronation had an impact, it cannot excuse the prolonged period of economic stagnation presided over by this government and caused in part by their shambolic Brexit deal which has increased costs for businesses and made labour shortages worse.

“This economic trend will continue until the Government acknowledges that current trading arrangements are part of the problem and acts on some of the recommendations we have made including regulatory alignment with the EU where beneficial and rejoining Horizon 2020.”
