Andrew Lewin MP stands down as UKTBC Chair
Andrew Lewin MP has stepped down as Chair of the UK Trade and Business Commission (UKTBC) after leading its work for the past 18 months, following his appointment as Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Department for Business and Trade.
Rachel Blake MP has also stepped down from her role as a member of the UKTBC, following her appointment as Economic Secretary to the Treasury.
Since taking up the role of Chair in November 2024, Lewin oversaw a significant programme of work focused on strengthening UK-EU relations through practical policy solutions. During his tenure, the Commission published its report on the UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement and is preparing to release its final report on UK-EU energy co-operation.
While leading the Commission, Lewin was a strong advocate for improving opportunities for young people through closer UK-EU co-operation. He led the Commission’s UK-EU Youth Experience Scheme report and publicly called on the UK Government, alongside more than 60 parliamentary colleagues, to support a deal that would create economic, educational and cultural opportunities for young people across the UK and Europe.
Reflecting on his time as Chair, Lewin said:
“Since my appointment in November 2024, I am proud of the programme of work we have delivered together. From our latest report on the UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement to our championing of a balanced and deliverable youth experience scheme...
“There is no doubt that UK-EU relations today are stronger than they have been at any point in the last decade. I will always be an advocate for the strongest possible UK-EU relationship and look forward to continuing my work in this space as the Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Department for Business and Trade.”
